Thinking Outside of the Box to Be Your Authentic Self | Isabela Nash | TEDxSaintAndrewsSchool
At some point or another in our lives, we have all felt a little confused about who we are. Our identity can be challenged by friends, family, or situations we go through yet for the most part we come out of these experiences stronger and with a deeper sense of purpose. I explore this in my talk through sharing my experiences. I get to the root as to why most mixed people, whether that be culturally or racially, struggle to claim their background in a world of binaries, and I challenge viewers to stop categorizing our identities as one or the “other”.
“As humans, we go through different stages of discovery in our lives for some this process starts and ends in high school while others go their entire life in search of where they belong.“
Digital History on Historically Black Colleges and Universities
Goal
At a predominantly white institution, there was some discourse as to how much academic advising was willing to share and encourage students to apply to HBCUs. Therefore, this project was two-fold in that it prompted advising to cast a wider net and exposed students to a potential Alma Mater.
As Black Student Union Vice President, I was tasked by my advisor to create a video during Black History Month to highlight the history and legacy of historically Black colleges and universities (H.B.C.U.). This video was broadcast during the morning advisory section to all of the upperclassmen.
I researched private institutions, public institutions, the higher education act of 1965, sports, and funding.
After compiling the information I created a script and gathered images. I split up the information and tasked the members of BSU to read off a script. After delegating parts to each member and recording I edited the clips and images in iMovie.
